What New Standard can and can’t see, usage counting, and removing Kin.
What can New Standard see?
Your family’s data lives on your Mac, encrypted, and nothing about it comes to us. We can see that your Kin Server connects to our relay and which version it runs, so we can count how many households use Kin. We never count who. The Privacy Policy has the full list.
How do I turn off usage counting?
On your Mac, open Kin Server and go to Settings → Privacy, then turn off Usage counting. Kin works exactly the same either way. You just won’t be included in our counts.
What’s included in a bug report?
A bug report opens a pre-filled email in your own mail app, and you see everything before you send it. Along with your description, it includes your family’s name and basic technical details, like which model your Kin Server uses and recent log lines. It never includes your messages or memories.
Removing Kin and your data Guide
This permanently deletes your family’s Kin data. If you might want it back someday, first save an encrypted copy (on your Mac: Settings → Backup → Save an encrypted copy) and keep it somewhere safe.
- Click the Kin icon in your Mac’s menu bar and uncheck Start Kin when this Mac starts.
- Choose Quit Kin Server…, then Stop server and quit.
- Drag Kin Server from your Applications folder to the Trash.
- To delete the data too, open Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder…, type ~/Library/Application Support and press Return. Drag the folder named Kin to the Trash, then empty the Trash.
- On each phone, delete the Kin app.
Your license key still works if you install Kin again later.
